A router table can make any woodworking project simple. If you do not have a router table, then you can build one yourself. The cost of building a router table can be less expensive than buying one that is already put together. There are several steps to get your router table constructed and ready to use. To begin building a router table, you would need to first decide how high you need the table to be. Height is important when it comes to designing the cabinet for a router table. Take the lumber that you have chosen to build the table from and cut out the parts that you need to build the cabinet with. Construct the box-style cabinet to maintain the accurate height that works best for you. Then, take the wood parts and secure them in appropriate places with screws. Once the cabinet parts are put together, you can use glue to secure the edging in place. The edging is not mandatory but it does help protect the cabinet wood. The glue may take a few minutes to set up depending upon the type of wood you are using. The construction of the cabinet can be the standard-size for your working needs. Once the cabinet is constructed properly, it is important to install the doors and drawers to the cabinet compartments.
The next important step requires you to measure the height of the router. This will determine if the router motor can be taken out of its base without any issues once the middle shelf is installed in the cabinet. If the height of the router motor does not allow for removal, then the measurements may need to be changed for proper use. If the height is fine and the router motor can be removed easily, then the middle shelf can be installed and attached to the cabinet.
Now, it is time to place the doors in their proper location and secure them with hinges. There are different types of hinges that can be used to attach the doors. Once the doors are secured by hinges, it is time to attach the furniture glides with nails. The switch can be connected to the cabinet with a connecting mount. Once the outer switch is hooked up, there would need to be a hole cut out for the power supply cord. Once that hole is cut out, there would need to be one more hole for the suction hose. This hole can be cut out above the middle shelf. Make sure the suction hose hole is flush with the hose itself. If it is not flush, it could release dust out into the work area.
Next, laminate the top of the cabinet surface and fence faces. Now it is time to begin installing and connecting the router base to the cabinet. You can drill holes to attach the router base to the cabinet for easy assembly. Once the router table is connected properly to the cabinet, it is ready for use.
